🎄 At our Christmas party this year, it wasn’t just the little ones unwrapping presents… Maslow’s received a few unexpected gifts too, straight from the hearts of our volunteers.
Today, we’d love to share one of them with you.
Our wonderful volunteer Manar gifted us a hand-made mosaic canvas, created especially for Maslow’s. Here’s what she shared about her piece:
“When I started my volunteer role at Maslow, I was deeply moved by the work carried out by the volunteers and by the number of people visiting both the shop and the hub. I was struck by the generosity of those who donate, and by those who benefit from the voucher system, which works amazingly well.
The idea for this canvas slowly evolved in my mind as I wanted to translate what I was feeling into a piece of work. The mosaic tiles, with their different shapes and colours, represent people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, nationalities, languages, and genders. Some tiles are perfect, while others are broken.
At the centre of the piece is Maslow’s logo. Its inner circle is filled with gold leaf, which spreads outward, connecting the tiles and holding them together. This also reflects the Japanese Kintsugi method of repairing pottery and ceramics—embracing cracks and imperfections, giving them value, and creating a new life and a new chapter.
This work is dedicated solely to Maslow’s.”
We’re so honoured to have this beautiful artwork now living in our space, a daily reminder of everything our community stands for. Thank you, Manar, for your heart, your vision, and your craft 💛
