volunteer
Maslow’s Community began with volunteers, and volunteers continue to make Maslow’s what it is today. From running our Community Shop and Hub to welcoming people through the door, volunteers play a vital role in everything we do. They are also part of our shared decision-making, helping shape how Maslow’s grows and develops.
A pathway, not just a role
For many people, volunteering at Maslow’s is a step towards rebuilding confidence and finding connection. Many of our volunteers come from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds, and volunteering can be an important part of settling into life in a new country.
At Maslow’s, volunteering offers space to learn, practise English, gain experience, and build friendships. Over time, some volunteers take on more responsibility, supporting others or stepping into team lead roles. We love seeing people grow and find their place.
Learning skills for the future
Volunteering at Maslow’s Electric Shop also offers practical skills that can support future employment. One example is PAT Testing. We support volunteers with hands-on experience, learning materials, and guidance, and when they are ready, we cover the cost of the PAT testing exam.
