volunteer

Maslow’s Community began with volunteers, and volunteers continue to make Maslow’s what it is today. From running our Community Shop and Hub to welcoming people through the door, volunteers play a vital role in everything we do. They are also part of our shared decision-making, helping shape how Maslow’s grows and develops.

Learning skills for the future

All new volunteers at Maslow’s receive structured training and practical support to help them feel confident and prepared in their roles. Whether it’s sorting donations, stocking shelves, welcoming customers, or helping with admin, everyone finds a role where they feel comfortable, capable, and part of the team.

Many of our volunteers are refugees and asylum seekers who are starting new lives in a new country. For some, this is their first opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a local work environment. Volunteering with us helps build confidence, develop practical skills, and create a real sense of belonging.

As volunteers gain experience, many choose to take on more responsibility by becoming shift leaders — helping to organise the day, support new volunteers, and keep everything running smoothly.

At Maslow’s Electric Shop, volunteers also have the opportunity to work towards recognised qualifications such as a PAT Testing Certificate. We support them with hands-on experience, learning materials, and guidance, and when they’re ready, we cover the cost of the PAT testing exam — helping turn volunteering into a meaningful step towards future opportunities.
