Over the past few weeks, we’ve been running a series of friendly workshops at Maslow’s Community Hub to help people understand how elections work in Scotland.

It was great to see so many people come along, ask questions, and share their thoughts. The sessions were open to everyone, especially those who are new to voting or unsure how the system works.

We kept things simple and easy to follow. We talked about how to register to vote, how voting works in Scotland, and why you get two votes on the ballot. We also looked at different political parties and what they stand for.

One thing that surprised a lot of people is that Scotland is quite open when it comes to voting. Many people who live here, including some non-UK citizens, are allowed to vote in Scottish Parliament and local elections. This is not the case everywhere, so it is important to know your rights and take part if you can.

The workshops were relaxed and informal. People could ask questions at any time, and there was space for discussion. We even had a short quiz to make things a bit more fun and help everyone remember what they learned.

A big thank you to Rory, who led the workshops and made sure everyone felt welcome and comfortable.

If you were not able to join, there is still one more way to get involved.

We are hosting an Election Hustings at the Hub on 30th April from 6:00 to 7:30pm.

A hustings is a simple event where local election candidates come to speak about their ideas and answer questions from the community. It is a good chance to hear directly from them and decide who you might want to vote for.

Everyone is welcome. You do not need any previous knowledge. Just come along, listen, and take part if you feel comfortable.

We hope to see you there.
